Oath Betrayed: Torture, Medical Complicity and the War on Terror by Steven Miles is a must read for any military healthcare provider. The book is largely a criticism of the war in Iraq but does a great job illustrating the "dual agency" dilemma that military physicians face.
Dave Grossman, a retired Army LTCOL, interviewed hundreds of warriors including military and law enforcement personnel. He summarized their combat experiences in his book On Killing. For example Grossman reported a high percentage of combat veterans had experienced loss of bladder and bowel control. This work was nominated for a Pulitzer prize in 1995.
